New Orleans – 0. Head and Tail

March 3rd, 2015,

“I just arrived. It’s raining, one of those beautiful rain, the kind of rain that sober you up in five minutes, keeping you mesmerized by its strength and intensity. Once it’s gone, once the sky emptied its clouds and the barman filled my glass, I went walking along the riverwalk, on Decatur street. A thick fog wrapped me, no way to see more than 10 meters away. Public lights shade yellow flares in the smokey atmosphere. At this time I swear I could feel the magic, nice comfy voodoo. I tried to stay in that out-of-reality spacetime, but eventually, I heard a sax in the dark and my feet turned left on Frenchman street.”

It was my first day, in one hour I had a taste of what was the life in new Orleans… or at least the taste of being white in New Orleans. Without any surprises it was the bright side, attracting so many visitors from all over the world. It’s true it is a fun place. It’s like a theater, playing every night the same masterpiece, everyone has a role to play, the actors are great, and the public is wonderful. The show is over,  everyone claps their hands, curtain closes, spectators go back home with a cheerful memory. however, Behind that curtain, behind the well-designed scene, stands an ugly background with broken pipes, holes in the roof and empty plates.
